Question Need some help please :) - 01-07-2009, 03:31 PM

I am not a professional yet, and am far from it. I do photography as a hobby mostly and a little on the side for friends and family. I am wanting a site, like snapfish, but I want to get paid when people order pics. Basically, I want to upload pics I've taken at a birthday party, give the link to the family, sit back and wait for the $ to be deposited into my bank account. I don't want to see the order and have to go somewhere and order pics myself, then mail it to whom ever. I don't mind paying commissions, but I don't want to pay a monthly/starter fee since I probably won't be making much $ anyways.

Am I dreaming here or is there a site like that anywhere?

You can do that with Smugmug pro account. But it costs $149 per year.
I don't know of any other places you can do this.

Thanks Phanee. I think if I paid that, it would defeat the whole purpose, cause I would pay more than what I will probably make :). I love the ease and simplicity of instaproofs, but I don't want to have to run out everytime someone wants to buy and then worry about mailing it....

Try Photo Reflect. by ExpressDigital. http://www.photoreflect.com/ They charge a percentage of your sales. It is a great way to start.

I really like Smug Mug. They offer a 50 percent discount on pro accounts the first year if you mention TPF (see the sponsors area of the forum at the bottom for details). Great customer service and customizability, etc.

Won't go into it here, but sometimes online sales just don't work. And another wrinkle is that you make any money with your services, that technically makes you a pro and adds a long list of things you'll need to do first. For example, if you went with Smug Mug, there is tax paperwork you have to fill out for them first before you can get paid. On the other hand, you can get a regular Smug Mug account, give people the link and they can buy your photos (you won't profit, but it will spread good will).
