Something I have tried to explain to a number of people... I have a corporation and everything I do business wise is processed through that corporation. Since I am operating under my own name as a photographer, I don't have a dba filed (and don't have to). My corporation takes the money, so my corporation has the sales tax license (among other things)... so you won't find a sales tax license searching for my name.

In other words.. just because you can't find a sales tax license under a name you try - that doesn't mean they don't have one.

Even if your name isn't the same as your corpration, if you search SOS Records (Secretary of State) you can find the Incorporated Entities legal name and then search for their Tax Id. All business Record (especially those of incorportated entities) are open records. Granted, most people will not have access to these, as access costs, but you can search for free. We deal almost exclusively with other Coroporations (Property Management) and utilize this information alot in contractual dealings daily.

Even a corporation has to have a Texas Sales Tax ID. The corporation I work for does just like Wal-Mart, Target etc. and all of those have Texas Sales Tax ID's for EACH location in Texas.

Have you ever wonder how come you get so many phone calls from soilictors, companies and other trying to sell you services etc. at your business phone? They simply search these records looking for the ones they want to market to.

Oh, man, I know, right? And the number of calls I got (mostly from security companies) after I got my most recent Certificate of Occupancy (we moved the studio)... man, I thought the phone wasn't going to STOP ringing.

Get a Sales Tax license and you will be inundated with calls from merchant processors.
