Shooting product for an online boutique - 02-06-2009, 10:29 AM

Have you ever shot product for a boutique? I was contacted by an online boutique for my services photographing their products. I'd asked another photog about this and she said she's done it before for $150, minimum 4 hours. I didn't know if that's pretty standard or if there's a different way to structure the pricing.

Assuming they want full rights to reproduce your images any way they want ?

I charge a day rate, and have a half day rate that is 65% of my day rate.

Depending on the complexity of the shoot, I would charge my day rate.

Personally, I wouldn't put my equipment in my car and drive down the road for $150, let alone a 4 hr. shoot !!

"But I'm not a full time professional and I don't have a lot of experience, so I can't charge the going rate." sort of reply is pure garbage. (you weren't going to say that were you?)
If you are good enough to be offered the job, you are good enough to charge the going rates. Don't sell yourself, and the rest of the photographers short.

commercial day rate: $2500 ( and that is low in my area )

I read this as $150 per hour with a 4 hour minimum...I hope that's right...otherwise someone is working for about $10 an hour and paying for their own equipment....eeekkk.!!!

That's Amanda's area, too, at least according to her info. Hey, that's my area, too!

You control the price. Can you realistically shoot it for $150, spend the time, and come out ahead? You're valuable to the client so make them pay for what you're worth. If she says she can have someone else shoot it cheaper, ask her who. Make sure she's comparing apples to apples. Quality is something paid for.
