I still cannot get into my email. Im getting ready to spit fire. I've been locked out since Friday morning, then all my messages were deleted and not recovered, and I got back in for less than 24 hours, and now its down again.

Am I, seriously, the only one affected by this? I thought a bunch of you guys have IX?

Holly - I am SO sorry to hear about this. I can tell you that I've been with IX for nearly two years and they simply suck. Poor client service, poor webstats on their hosted sites, poor attention to detail and the servers are down regularly. I can't tell you how many times I tried to get to my website only to get a "site does not exist" error!

In January, my domain name was actually in the name of a business partner of mine who set up my website. He has moved on to other projects, so I initiated an ownership change for the registration. Now, the website was ALREADY hosted on IX and the domain was already registered with IX. All we were asking for was for them to release the registration from one person to another. We didn't move the registration to another provider and we continued to host the website on their server. I kid you not that it took 44 DAYS to complete the transaction. The entire time they told me that it would be "online tomorrow", but they instructed me NOT to touch any files during the transfer as it might hose the site. So, I couldn't update a thing and I literally lost one wedding client because I had to burn some images to a disc and mail it to her since I couldn't set up a password protected gallery for her during the "transition" period.

I spent $200 with them for two years of hosting, moving the files from old owner to me and for the registration change. I JUST blew out of there and just chalked up the $200 and my hours of lost time to an expensive lesson learned.

However, my emails are never lost as I use Microsoft Outlook. If you use Outlook, all your emails (sent and received) are archived on your personal PC, so even if the web server goes down, all your history is in your Outllook folder on your PC. I can't tell you how many times with IX that I've had to retrieve an email from a prospect or client and email them from a DIFFERENT email account than my photography business just to keep in contact.

In exchange for your help with me last week, if you want to give me a shout, I'll fill in any additional details you may need. I just changed my website host and built a completely new site that launched yesterday as a result of their incompetence.

Good luck in getting those emails back!

I'm using 1and1.com - have for most of my websites for a few years now. They are boring as heck - which is just how I like 'em. ;-) Nothing changes, stays the same, etc.

I use Outlook as well - which is great if you have issues with your hosting company - NOT so great if your computer crashes, lol.

Before everyone start recommending web hosting companies I just want to give a shout out to Eleven2.com, tpf's sponsor.

I have a domain name that I registered back in 1997 and been hosted by various hosting companies. I've pretty much seen it all and hear every excuses given by the hosting companies.

I came in here to say this: Seriously guys, use the tpf forum sponsor Eleven2.com If they do something silly Abel can always kick their butt.

I'm hosted with them and they are by far the best. That's saying a lot considering my domain been hosted for over 12 years!

Been really pleased with them and now they host my photography website (gamafotos.com)

They sent that request to that department. Which has been silent for the past few days. I think its a nice way of saying f-off. Im a patient person, but they are making me look stupid AND costing me business.

Holly,

I am so sorry to hear about your nightmare with IX. I have been with them for about 5 years. NEVER had any major problems. I have the platimum package, I don't use it to it's fullest. Don't even have the email through them. I have a hotmail account for that. I was thinking of using the email service that comes with my package, now that I hear about this, I will never set it up. I have so many important emails stored. If something like this were to happen to me, I would be screwed.

What plan do you have?

We've been with them since 04ish? So its been a while. They still have the least # of complaints compared to everyone else. They totally suck - when I asked to be compensated - like refund me for this year which is what - $100/ or credit me for next year - they stopped answering my trouble ticket and asking me to close it. NOT HAPPY WITH THEM.

Anyway, we have a business plan - dont recall which one, but I have several websites (5) with them and I use the site email with all of them. They only lost some of the emails, they other sites were not affected at all.

Someone told me to use outlook so the emails would be stored locally. In 4 years, ok, 5 years, this is the only problem we've had with them, but it was really big.
