Biz card CC please - 03-18-2009, 09:00 PM

Here is my idea for a new biz card. Contact info will be on the other side.
Is this picture ok? It's not a face, or a big smile. It's a girl dressed up in a princess dress having fun. Can you tell? Should I look for a different image?
Please let me know what you think, especially those with experiance!
Thanks so much!!!!!

I like the concept, but the font is hard to make out and read.
Next, the picture is ok, but you don't want a client to say ok! We want them to say WOW! Biz cards always end up in the trash, unless it say WOW. IMO
I like it but, just try a different font and image..... good luck!

Thanks for your comments Angel. I got rid of the shadow behind the font, it is easier to read that way.

I am having a time picking a picture! Thought this one would say fun and follow your dreams...

I don't think a face is necessarily mandatory, but in the case of children you'll probably be handing these out to moms (or parents in general). And the eyes/face can help establish an emotional connection. My opinion is to look for another photo, one that is really special ... beautiful color (unless you're sold on b&W), perfect catchlights in the eyes, beautiful expression, etc. The small size means it's got to be a "quick read" with no explanation necessary ... the picture must be worth 1,000 words by itself (hopefully those words say "hire me" over and over).

This photo is cute, but the angle or something makes the girl look a little squashed to me, too.

I've been a graphic designer for over 30 years. I like it. It's different. It cuts through the clutter. It makes you ponder a bit. Sometimes you don't want to hit someone over the head with the obvious. Your said it all with your first sentence.. "Here is my idea". This concept obviously spoke to you. It shows you have style and creativity.

"Luke, trust the force."

I would use another photo. I can't tell if the little girl is having fun or not.... Something to think about. Also the WOW factor of the card doesn't draw me. Just being honest... I like that you are using the other side of the card for information. Interested in what you are putting on the other side to get my attention... Hope this helps.

My two cents...
Check the kerning on "L" in Lady Bug & the "P" in portraits.

Old journalism term for the space between letters. Looks like the space could be reduced (if you want).

And I like the second photo better. Paul's suggestion is good, but I don't know that a little kid on railroad tracks would go over well (at least around here).

Thank you... we use that term in graphic design as well.

I like the second photo much better.... The Font on the card needs to be Bolder in my opionion. (Lady Bug). Also I would extend the Red wider and put the font and lady bug logo in white placed in the red. That way you can use the whole card. In other words no white background on the front of the card(Full Bleed). Just a suggestion... Also what size is the Card?

i don't know if i cropped it right, but it will be a normal business card size.

Thanks so much! I think I like the second photo better too...

Paul, I will try your suggestion and see what I think about making the red area bigger.
