Access to antique car(s) - 05-07-2009, 12:08 PM

I am in the planning stages of a portfolio image that requires a classic car from the 1940s. I have contacted the president of the Texas
Region Antique Automobile Club of America asking for assistance locating an owner that would be willing to exchange using the car for a portrait or something. Haven't heard back yet.

Does any one have any tips on how I can get access to a classic car for a photoshoot? Because I am doing this for my portfolio I'd prefer not to have to pay cash, but to exchange car time for photographs.

I'd love to get my hands on a 40-41 Lincoln continental or a 1940 Packard.

Thanks!

There is a photo-friendly (last time I was there, ~15 years ago) museum in Rosanky, Tx (near Bastrop) that has 100s of pristine classics. They are all on loan and they may put you in touch with the owner if you find something you like.

Thank you guys! This is a Fall project, so I got plenty of time to get the right contacts and arrangements.

Got a lead - a nice gentleman involved with the Dallas Early Ford V-8 club. I think I've got what I need to get the car piece arranged.

Thanks again.

I'd keep an eye out for one of the local car clubs' informal shows. These happen a lot at old-style diners or Sonic restaurants (or a Hooters near me). You can shop around for a car that really catches your eye, chat up the owner ... most are extremely proud of their vehicles. My guess is that few actually have professional photos of them. Score! There are also car shows as part of some towns' annual festivals, you just have to find them.

I think it's going to get rained out, but there is an antique car/boat show at Eagle Mountain Lake this Saturday.

That's if your lead doesn't work out for some reason!
