Pro Select - Projection Proofing - 05-07-2009, 03:14 PM

I'm at Texas School - and Ron Nichols did a presentation in our class, and I'm fairly certain I left a wet spot in my seat

I'm sort of a tech geek... show me a cool program... and OMG... love it!!!

Some of the folks in my class said they have it, but don't use it.

Petty uses it, sort of... Tauffer uses it... but only part of it.

The way that Nichols showed it... it eliminates the need for Light Room - entirely.

So - who has it, do you use just 'part' of it? Or all of it?? or... do you have it and it sits in a box (want to sell it????)

The Texas Price is like $800 for the Pro version, and 4 or 5 other 'Ron Nichols Palletes'...

I've read Holly's thing about her projection proofing - and how it's increased her sales - so that's one positive...

Donna, talk to Brad. I know he uses it. And Holly is right, projection proofing DOES increase your sales :) I know, I started projection screening in January and had the best quarter yet for my business.

I use ProSelect, but I don't think I have the "pro" version because I paid a lot less then $800 for it.

It is awesome and it paid for itself the first time I used it.

We talked about it briefly at Six Flags tonight.. but yea, it was the best software purchase I made last year. You don't need the Pro version.. you should be able to do projection proofing with the less than Pro version. (Semi-Pro Select?) I use it mostly for editing down the selection of images.

As for it replacing Lightroom .. I don't think so.. it doesn't do most of the processing Lightroom does....

Projected proofing rocks. I use lightroom most of the time. Once in a while I'll make a slide show, but it doesnt seem to affect the total sale for me. Im all for what ever selling tools better enable you to sell. Part of that is personal and what makes sense to you.

So did you drop the cash on this while you were there? I'm hoping that you will get it so you can train me. :o)

We use ProSelect also, but only the basic module for client viewing. I have thought about upgrading it and SuccessWare so they work together. That's a bunch of bucks though.

Don - (don't mean to hijack!) Are you using Successware now??? After Texas School, that is at the top of my priority list. The only thing keeping me back is the amount of time it takes for the set up. If you have is already, did you find it to be cumbersome?

Not yet - it's on my 'must have' list. We are doing this Dave Ramsey thing prior to Brad deploying so that I don't have ANY financial worries while he's gone because almost everything SHOULD be paid off... so I have to hold off for a little while. It may take me another month or so before I get it. I'm hoping I can get him to offer the show special, AFTER the show...

Yeah - our instructors did a bit of a sales pitch for SuccessWare as well - it seems to be the thing to use right now....

We have been using SuccessWare since 2000. I used Softmax for 15 years before that, but it is no longer available. I would still be using it, but my computer finally gave up the ghost and I had to move on. I looked at a lot of different software and SuccessWare came closest to doing the things I wanted. I have not upgraded since version 3.8.2 so I am considering that. I would have to upgrade to get the ProSelect to interface.

The nice thing about SuccessWare is that there are a some things you HAVE to set up in the beginning, but a lot of it you can set up as you go. As a for instance, you can set up a basic price list with the items that you sell every day and then add new items as you actually sell them. I haven't sold a 40X60 yet, and it is on my price list, but I haven't needed to add it to SuccessWare yet. When I sell one I will type it into that order and SW will automatically add it to the price list for the future.

I have helped several other photographers set their systems up and would be glad to help you too. Either that or go to one of their workshops and set it up at the workshop.

It was great to meet all the new faces at Texas School.

Thanks for that info Don (and thanks for the offer of help)! It's hard to wade through all of the systems that are out there right now.
