Quick help: sales tax id category for photographers??? - 05-14-2009, 08:43 PM

I'm applying online, and I can't figure out which category photography falls under!

Quote:
Administrative and Business Support Services - collection agencies, security, locksmiths, landscaping, janitorial, waste collection, etc.
Agriculture/Forestry/Fishing - production crops, production livestock, commercial fishing, hatchery preserves, etc.
Arts/Entertainment/Recreation - performing arts, spectator sports, theme parks, fitness centers, independent artists, writers, performers, etc.
Construction - residential/non-residential, industrial, specialty contractors, etc.
Educational Services - public schools, colleges, training & instruction
Finance/Insurance Related Companies - banks, security, commodity, investments, insurance carriers, etc.
Food Service/Accomodations - restaurants, hotels, catering, drinking places, bed-and-breakfast inns, rv parks, etc.
Health Care & Social Assistance - hospitals, nursing/residential care, vocational rehabilitation, child care, community services, etc.
Information Services - telecommunications, audio/video production, data processing, internet service providers, etc.
Management of Companies and Enterprises - holding companies
Manufacturing - food products, apparel, publishing, metal/chemical products, etc.
Mining/Quarrying/Oil and Gas Extraction - oil and gas drilling, rock, sand, gravel quarrying, etc.
Professional/Technical Services - legal services, tax preparation, programming, interior/graphic design, surveying, engineering, etc.
Public Administration - executive, legislative and other government support, national security, public order and safety, etc.
Rental Companies/Real Estate - equipment rentals, personal property rentals, real estate agents and managers, etc.
Retail Trade - primarily sells directly to the consumer
Services - maintenance/repair of automobiles, electronics, computers, industrial equipment, appliances, furniture, etc.
Transportation & Warehousing - transportation of passengers and cargo, warehousing and storage, etc.
Utilities - electricity, natural gas, water, sewage, etc.
Wholesale Trade - durable/non-durable goods, etc. primarily sells to retailers for resale
I thought it would be Arts, because of how it's described:

Quote:
Arts/Entertainment/Recreation - performing arts, spectator sports, theme parks, fitness centers, independent artists, writers, performers, etc
(I assumed photographer would be similar to writer....)

but the sub-categories don't fit!

I'd really like to get this done ASAP. Does anyone have a clue????

Professional/Technical Services???

Should I choose Information Services, since we're also going to be doing video??

Okay, I finally found a search box.

If anyone else needs it, the code for Photographer (portrait and event, including videography) is 541921.

Congrats on getting legal! ;-)

I know I had a hard time figuring out WHICH one of those to use as well!

Thanks!

That didn't take long at all! I now have a tax id number—it'll be completely official once I print the signature page, sign it, and mail it in.

Of course, that requires my printer to work.... (Cross your fingers for me!)

Now all I have to do is figure out what I'm required to do about all this. I think I need an accountant, once I start making money. gulp.
