SOLD: 3 Canon consumer zooms - 11-04-2009, 09:47 PM

My wife is ready for something better/faster so we're selling the "starter" lenses I put together for her a few months ago. All three are in good condition, work fine, and have both end caps (no hoods).

(Usually I'd sell stuff like this to my students, but this semester is my "Intro to Digital Photography" class and no one has or uses dSLRs. I'm not teaching "Advanced Digital Photography" until next fall, so I don't think I'll be needing these lenses any time soon.)

New lower prices!

18-55 IS = $85*
55-250 IS = $185*
28-135 IS = $235 - SOLD

*Buy BOTH of the IS kit lenses FOR SOLD ON CL FOR $275 and get a free CPL that fits them both!!!

Of course you are free to inspect and shoot with them prior to purchasing.

All prices local cash sales in Dallas. I work on the north side of the DFW airport and can meet up at Grapevine Mills mall most days around lunchtime.

Check my feedback here, and on POTN, and on eBay (HLYRLR)

Lemme know...

PM replied.

Sample images below for the 55-250 and the 18-55.

The statue is with the 55-250.

The Sigma lens was taken w/ the 18-55.

(Still looking for samples from the 28-135...)

I'd be interested in the Sigma 28-70/f2.8, but I am sure you were just using it as a model......

Surely someone needs some good basic zoom lenses. Is the economy really THAT bad or...?!?!?!

(w9 - you got a 24-70 in your sig, why do you want another in that range )

that is a great deal on the 28-135IS. If I still had my canon I would be all over it.

I'm sure the 28-135 will fit on your D300 - a little duct tape, a little bailing wire, viola... :-)

I've been trying to get my son-in-law to buy them for a week now, so that I have an excuse to drive up to DFW to pick them up and do some shooting up there.

So far, no dice!

I'm still working on him, though.

I'm not a canon user, but my daughter (Baylor Lariat staff for 3 yrs) is looking to get her own canon gear before she leaves for Int'l study abroad this spring. Would you be interested in packaging your 40D with the lenses for a great price to help out a budding photojournalist? (not begging or anything - yeah, right!) Her grandparents are in FW and could probably meet you if we can work a deal...

Man - tough crowd...

Just to be sure we're all on the same page about these lenses, here are excerpts from the PhotoZone.de reviews...

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS

Quote:
The center resolution of the lens is extremely high throughout the tested zoom and aperture range and at its sweet spots it matches or exceeds the sensor resolution of the 8mp base DSLR used for testing. Normally you would expect a severe drop off beyond the inner image portion but this is not the case. The border and even the extreme corners remain on a very good level especially at 18mm. This is not unprecedented - the Nikkor AF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 ED is also darn good - but it's certainly something new for a budget Canon standard zoom lens. Rest assured that you may not be the only one reading this in disbelief.
Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS

Quote:
The lens produced pretty impressive resolution figures in the MTF lab. The resolution characteristic is generally very good across the image frame. Unsurprisingly the lens performs best at 55mm but there's only a slight deterioration towards the long end of the zoom range - surely the benefit of the large UD element in the front lens group.
Are these "L" quality lenses for a fraction of the price? Of course not.

Are these lenses an EXCELLENT VALUE for general photography - especially with Image Stabilization and a free Circular Polarizing Filter included? Absolutely!!!
