SOLD: Nikon D50 IR (infrared converted) - 12-15-2009, 06:25 PM

I recently had this camera converted through lifepixel, very impressed with their service and the quality of the IR images. this camera shoots beautiful IR, and was used to take every one of these pictures:

mike irwin - infrared fine art prints at Imagekind.com

nothing wrong with it, its a great IR setup, i'm just trying to make some room in the toy budget for a new main body, and i'm pretty sure at some point i'll wish i had this camera back and will be converting another one.

I'd really like to deliver this one in person (dallas area) and give some pointers to the buyer if they aren't familiar with IR, but i'll also gladly ship if needed. i dont have a picture of the camera yet to post but on the outside it looks just like a regular D50. I do have original box, manuals, neck strap, battery, charger and all that. i'll even throw in a few 2GB SD cards if you are in need. as with all of my cameras, this thing's been babied its whole life.

asking $600 firm. (the IR conversion itself was $325 + shipping) body-only. if you'd like this camera and dont have any nikon lenses to use i can work out a deal to throw in my 18-55mm and sell it as a kit.

i'm at work now so i'd need to get back home to get the exact number, but i believe it's somewhere in the ballpark of between 13,000 and 14,000.

actually the numbers are pretty interesting on that topic. supposedly the average number of shutter clicks on a D50 before it would fail to click is 40,241 - but that's only the average, which doesnt indicate the percentag that went way beyond that, nor the percentage that died sooner.

but, there are also statistics that indicate that even at 150,000 clicks a D50 is 47.6% likely to still be alive. and even at 75,000 clicks it is 79.3% likely to survive.

pretty interesting stuff, though no one can ever really guarantee the click life of a camera, or properly estimate when it is half-used for that matter. all they can really do is state that it's been very well taken care of and treated like a valuable piece of equipment, was always kept in a bag when not in use, never exposed to environmental extremes, etc. all of these factors contribute to the life span, and all of them describe the way all of my cameras have been treated.

True. I owned a D50, and it did serve me well. It had about 7K on it when I sold it. Before that I had a D100, which had probobly 150K clicks on it when it died from shutter failure.

I can vouch for Mike, he's a fantastic guy and very true to his word. I've been around this camera since he bought it and he takes the utmost care of all his equipment.

wow, that's encouraging - i have another D50 as well that i'm keeping (not IR though) and it's got about the same number of clicks - the D100 was actually the same generation as the D50, so i wonder if their shutters are about the same at least in terms of life expectancy
