SOLD: Broken (but Fixable) AlienBees 30x60 Foldable Softbox - 01-20-2010, 10:21 AM

I've had two of AlienBee's 30x60 Giant Foldable Softboxes for a couple of years. One of them had an arm that broke months ago, and since it was out of warranty with AlienBee's, it's just been sitting here. I'm just not that good at fixing things like this! I never used both big softboxes that often anyway, so I'm just going to sell it.

The damage is only that one of the brackets that holds the arms together bent and the screw came loose. Look at the attached photos. The first two photos show how the "elbow" should look, and the other photos are of the broken one (I still have the screw that goes into it). Some bending or some welding should fix it pretty easily. The softbox looks collapsed in the photos because all the arms are attached and the one unattached arm just isn't supporting the frame, but it should be just fine again once fixed. Can't say that the fixing process would fix it enough to still be frequently opened and collapsed, but I would think fixing it would still make it a permanently opened softbox at the least.

AlienBees sells this softbox for $159 new, and I'll take $75 for it. (Item # FSB3060). It does come with the AlienBees speedring attached.

Hope that someone in the DFW area wants to buy it so I don't have to ship it, but if no one in the area bites, I'll consider shipping it (shipping will be extra).

Please email me at shannon@shannonmatsonseniors.com if you want it, and post here if you have any other questions!

I am curious as to what caused the failure?

I have no idea. It just broke off one day when I was setting up the softbox. I used it for on-location shoots off and on, so it was opened and closed a few times. But really, not excessive use. Haven't had one break since, so maybe it was just a weak joint right there? Don't know.

I would take if you were in houston. You don't happen to be heading this way anytime soon?

Nope.

But like I said, if no one in the DFW area will take it, I would be willing to ship it.

My home is in Farmers Branch (near 635 and Webb Chapel Road), but my studio is in North Plano (near Hedgecoxe and Custer).

Can you post a pic of the speed ring area, and possibly the size of the outer dimension of the speed ring circle where it is help into the adapter. I am not using AB's so I am curious if it would fit my lights. They are a Bowens mount!

Thanks

I've been so busy this week, I just had a chance to list this as sold. Sorry for the delay!
