Note that having Firewire 800->400 adapter would downgrade the actual speed, dropping about ~12-15MB/s of throughput.

ExpressCard is another option and in fact, that's the only device that's capable of getting the best out of newest CF full rating read speed, for laptop or macbook users with 34mm adapter, it's a solid option. But using one reader for both laptop and desktop, i like firewire reader better.

This is true! I have an expresscard reader, but the first one I got would crash the OSX SL every time I inserted it. (that's what she said?)
So they sent me a different one, and it works, but it doesn't seem very fast at all.
That's why I want to try this FW version.

I'm still ready to pay if you're ready to sell. Lets get this done.

I know that Firewire 800 drops to Firewire 400 on my machines. The good news is the backward compatitbility and the speed of Firewire 400 is fine.

Y'all better check the speed of the camera before wasting money on fast cards. A lot of cameras are slower than the cards out today. My 1D MkIII being one of them.

That's why we have card readers Wayne. Have you tried downloading a card tethered to the camera lately? OMG! My 5D Classic downloading images to the computer is like watching a snail race. Torture!

I have a Sandisk Express card tips over 96MB on their Extreme Pro CF card, and it works on SL just fine. But u can't insert the device with CF attached, it would crash OSX.

Nevertheless, i hate this ExpressCard thingie and couldn't locate a pci-e/ExpressCard for my Mac pro. The fact that Apple dropped ExpressCard on 15-inch and lower MBP would put this standard dead in the water very soon... not to mention USB 3.0 would be the new and better interface for card reader.

Indeed. I would have killed for a CF reader instead of SD card reader on my MBP. Granted, I have neither, but the newer bodies do. I got the generation just prior to the integrated SD reader.
