FOUND: Camera for young beginner photographer - 05-25-2010, 09:44 PM

I am looking for a camera for my best friend's daughter. She has expressed an interest in photography and so her parents have agreed to get her a camera for her 8th grade graduation. They like everyone else right now are on a very tight budget. Hopefully someone here will have an old digital rebel (or comparable) laying around they are willing to let go for cheap.....

I'd think at that age, one of the Olympus Tough cameras would do for now.

Maybe consider a fully manual 35mm film SLR with manual focus? Camera shops usually have plenty of these for <$100 for students...

She is not looking for a P&S

I agree it would be a great way to learn however, the cost of film and processing would quickly eclipse the cost of an inexpensive digital

I have a very clean D70 with 2 batteries and all accessories she can have for $250. I also have a few lenses that can go with it in the $50-150 range. It's all stuff I'm suppose to put up for sale anyway, but just don't have the time.

I have to get it to them in Chicago for $300 shipped

I would like to be in the $200-$250 range. I have passed on a few Digital rebels on Ebay for $175 and an XT for $250. Those seem to be about the going rates on there.

Consider Pentax, Olympus, Samsung DSLR's. Great cameras and lenses which are just as good as Canikons.

Walmart sells older display cameras for 30% off and sometimes more. Good prices on their regular stock. This goes for Cosco also.
