SOLD: Canon 70-200 2.8 IS - 06-11-2010, 04:16 PM

sold sold sold sold sold

I have a perfect condition 2.8 IS that is 3 years old up for sale or trade. I have hood, case, box, all papers, etc.

I am asking $1500 obo PayPal shipped

or a like-new 70-200 f/4 IS plus $300 cash/paypal.

I'm in San Antonio and would prefer FTF but will ship for no other charges.

Thanks!

Mike

I have a good trader rating here and you can check my eBay feedback at markovitch2006

^i'm confused, you woul trade straight up for a 10-200 f/4 IS w/o cash?

If that was the case I would buy a new 70-200 f/4 IS and trade you for your 70-200 f/2.9 IS...

Of course I'd like cash. But, I spend more time shooting and less time worrying, and since I'm not using this lens, and I feel I'd use the other more, I'd just like to make it happen sooner than later. I've had numerous PMs and I've replied to many of them. Cash is always king, but a FTF trade would work too. As I said, I'd consider shipping too as a last resort.

Someone asked me in a PM why I would trade a higher "value" lens for a lower "value" lens. What is value? To me it is getting more use out of something than just having the ability to say "mine cost more than yours". Both lenses get great reviews and each serve a purpose. As long as a person is using what they have then they are getting more value out of it than just having it sit in the closet just so they can say they own it. That's how I look at things.

Why would you get more use out of a slower lens?

It makes no sense to make that trade. It is like trading Kobe Bryant for Chase Buddinger. Hey - why not, they are both shooting guards?

Updated. $1500 obo cash/paypal shipped or a like new 70-200 f/.4 IS and $300, which is still a great deal after doing more homework. BH sell new for $1900, eBay has used for $1600 and my local shop is selling them for $2100. Have had several low ball offers. Still available.

Thanks

I don't shoot sports and limited low light. If Bryant sits on the bench all season what good is he?

Why would you use a F/4 when you don't use an F/2.8?

It is basically the same lens, just a big downgrade by letting in half as much light, and you were willing to downgrade it for free? That's like trading a $100 for a $50 bill. Hey, the $100 bill was just sitting there, not doing anything for me. Why not get a $50 for it?

If you wanted to trade it, why not find a different lens that you would use that would do something better for you?

You wanted a 5D2 - why not trade a 7D+70-200mm 2.8 IS for a 5D2?
Or if you want reach, trade it for a 100-400L? Maybe a Sigma 120-300 2.8.
Or if you want a killer portrait lens, get a 85 1.2L or 50L.
But the F/4 is virtually identical. What do you shoot, what do you want to shoot - find the lens that works for that.

Just trying to help you, Bro. Good luck.

The f4 is about 80% lighter according to Canon.

Why can't the guy do what makes him happy without all the questions?

Because he's kind of new to the game and it seems like he's going to take a bath... but you're right, it's his business and we shouldn't be clogging his For Sale thread up with opinions...

If you noticed I updated my offer at the top. You are right, I was taking a loss. More than I had realized, so I updated it. I am not going to get rid of my 7D until a 5d Mk III or something of the sort comes out, if I really want a full frame at that point. I had a 100-400 years ago and may consider another at some point or I may consider another long 2.8 at some point, but I just don't like the weight of the 2.8 and I find it just stays at home. Lately I've been using my 100 2.8 IS L for everything.
