Hi Guys,
My 15 year old daughter loves photography and wants to upgrade from the the little $75 starter point-and-shoot she currently has. She has been saving her money this summer and is ready to purchase. We're looking for good used Rebel or possibly a 30D. Local to D/FW would be a plus as would the inclusion of a starter lens like an 18-55mm.
Let me know what you have.
Thanks,
GE

| A cheap prime lens like a 35mm F/2 or a 50mm 1.8 would probably be a better lens to start with for her to actually learn photography and not snapshooting with a nicer camera. | | | |

Jusselin, thanks, I'll check.
Thomas, I agree but she really cannot afford the body and the $100 for the 50mm right now. She has $300 saved and I'm loaning the remainder until she picks up more babysitting gigs. :)

Hey Daryl,
I have the used 30D mentioned above ($300). For your young aspiring photog I can throw in a used 50mm 1.8 for a total of $370. Let me know before someone else takes it. I will have to replace the 50mm later (gotta fuind that 7D that's 'in the mail')
She would then have the auto focus 50 1.8 and the ' free throw-in' manual focus 35-80mm. The 50 will help her in realize how a fast lens can help (and produces great IQ/ bokeh) - and the 35-80 could help her realize how important better lenses are, ha. Anyway, good luck to you/yours.

Get her a Canon S90. You can get a really good price on one right now and it has all of the manual functions she would need to learn about exposure, metering, etc. It also has a decent zoom range and she could throw it in her jenas or purse and not have to worry about someone stealing a camera bag.
