I'm sorry to hear this. I would suggest giving this information to the pawn shops in and around your area.

If you havent done so, you should report the serial numbers to Nikon as being stolen. There was a thread on fredmiranda about someone purchasing a d700 used and they decided to send it in to have it cleaned, nikon didnt return it as it was reported stolen.

I'm hoping you reported it to HPD with serial numbers as well. If Houston is similar to Dallas, they will have a "pawn shop team" and such.

Good luck!

Of course, monitor Craigslist and Ebay and such as well.

Also mind telling us the specifics of how it was stolen? I hope you didnt leave the bag in the car? was it taken from the trunk?

I was in Houston for business. Obiviously no trunk, the bags were on the floor in the back seat of a crew cab pickup covered with a black jacket. The truck had an alarm system with remote pager. The crooks popped the lock on the drivers door; the alarm failed to acuate and the rest is history. Houston PD not very helpful.

New door lock and a new alarm system (with video cameras) forth-coming.

Sorry to hear about your loss.....this is more and more prevalent these days...Im hearing a lot of these items.....especially cameras, laptops...etc. head straight for Louisiana as HPD has no way to track....
Good luck

That blows! Did the theft happen in any area that might have had video survelliance going (a mall parking lot, in front of an ATM, etc.)?

Also, I wonder if it's possible to search EXIFs on the web for a particular camera serial number and trace it back that way (assuming they upload pics from it).

Things have gotten a little out of control to say the least..in our neighborhood they are now stealing the orange extension cords used for Christmas lights. I mean really??? I hope your stuff was insured...it bites.

Yep that sucks.

For everyone else - make a spreadsheet of your gear, replacement value and serial numbers and save it in google documents so you can access it from anywhere.

You may want to keep an eye on Craigs list also, If they stole, they want to dump it off in a hurry.
