I am SUPER anal about the transportation, care, and use of my gear. Shiftcanadian can vouch for that. 85L for instance, never came out unless absolutely necessary and stays put in a velcro padded wrap, not transported attached to the body. (85 1.8 was used for speed and peace of mind most the time)

Purchased through ebay from an unrated Fred Miranda seller. Was forwarded with a receipt for the first recall being performed. I sent it in myself for the 2 following updates. (paperwork is around here somewhere) It went in for the last focus update in 09, and was only used 4-5 times when my 5d mkII took over full time duty. Only really had real trouble with focus on just the 35L. Half of the shots I thought weren't sharp/misfocused, were because of the lower resolution LCD.

Used 15-20 times before I switched to the 1D in November. (primarily used the 24-70/35L) I did manage to lose the hood while shooting rolling shots at 50 mph out of a car.

My mom started shooting with a 40d so I gave it to her, but she maybe used it less than me. Her 55-250 stayed on the body 95% of the time. The lens was kept in a pouch, but traveled in her purse all over the world. I took it back from her in Nov 10' in trade for a 60d with kit lens.
Unsure and uncomfortable about the condition and selling it to someone who might find something wrong in 3-6 months time, I sent it into canon to have it inspected. Competitive camera sent it out and returned it sparkling with a $160 bill attached. Looks and feels better than when I bought it!
