Item is: FS:

For Sale Nikon D40 body only. Asking $120. Camera has a problem. On manual setting you get a notice "BULB" in the viewfinder. All photos come out dark and red. I am not sure what the problem is but i tried different dial settings, menu settings, etc. It is just messed up.

I am selling it as it b/c I cannot get it to work. For those of you who know how to fix cameras this may be a good deal. Body only for sale.

BULB is a shutter speed. It means your shutter stays open until you release the button. You really can't change it off that? You should be able to just adjust your shutter speed off that. I work in the Clear Lake area at JSC if you want me to take a quick look at it.

I tried different dial settings. I can get the bulb description off the camera with different dial settings but it does not work even with AF-S lens. Shutter speed remains almost open and all photos come out dark red. I tried menu settings to adjust color, etc but something is really wrong.

Please email me with your phone number and I will call you if you would like to inspect it.
Thanks

One other thing...did you try resetting the camera back to its default settings?

* Press the 'menu' button on the back near your LCD display.

* Press the left button near the 'OK' button to make sure you have the left side of the menu highlighted on the LCD display.

* Use the up and down buttons near the 'OK' to scroll to the 'pencil' icon.

* When the 'pencil' icon is highlighted, press the right button near the 'OK' to highlight the right side.

* Scroll up and down until you have 'Reset' highlighted, then press 'OK'.

* Scroll down one to 'yes', and press 'OK'.

I would be happy for anyone to fix it but I am tired of fooling with it and just want to sell it. If anyone can fix it, they will get a bargain.

I have a similar shutter problem with a Sony video camera DTR Vt10 (?) mini dv model where the shutter seems stuck in low light mode so everything in daylight glares and has flares off the images. Maybe this camera is just old.

The D40 is new from 2009.
