WTB. external hard drive needed - 12-27-2011, 05:13 PM

My son has become involved with a group of high school students (with adults supervising) that minister to homeless people in downtown Houston. They feed them, give them clothing if they have any, shoes, socks etc. but especially they make friends and if the person wants to, they pray with them and for them. The non profit organization Radical 25:35 is in need of an external hard drive. Anything above 100 mg will do...they don't have much right now..one small video and some photos.

I was going to buy them one, but because of the weather issues where hard drives are built, the prices of hard drives are through the roof right now. If you have one you could donate or sell me rather cheaply, I would be happy to take it off your hands!!

I'm sure there's one around that doesn't get used enough. You want a laptop size or desktop?

are you needing 100gb or 100mb? if 100mb, if a thumb drive would work, I'd recommend that, a 16gb thumb drive runs around 20-30 bucks i think

I have not found one...it doesn't matter if it is a laptop or a bigger size...they just want something to keep everything on...I think they will need something bigger than a thumb drive. They will be keeping video on it.

Renae: Fry's has a 500gb portable for $69:

I use portable HDDs like this for all my backups and stuff. The nice thing about 2.5" portable hard drives is that they are powered by the USB port on the computer. So if you are on a notebook and battery powered, the dirve will work fine. A larger (3.5") drive will need a wall outlet to work.
