FYI for anyone who cares....
The buyer takes it apart to find the problem the night he buys it. Yes, he must have some rather large cojones!
The plastic grommets on the screws that act as guides for the zoom element had broken. Without these guides, the weight of the element caused excessive drag on the zoom ring especially when the lens was tilted upward. Now it makes sense!
So he takes the focus ring grommets and uses them on the zoom ring screws and now it works perfect again. However, he is going to order replacement grommets.
So imagine - With minimal effort, this guy got a perfect Sigma lens worth $1800 for ~$1030 ... and because my cojones aren't big enough, I'm out ~$700.
