I have the giant foldable softboxwith grid for $140 plus shipping of say $20 if interested. Also an AB1600 I'd let go for cheap as a package deal. Little stronger than the 400 but you can power it down to a 400 and have the extra if need.

While the AB1600 is a fantastic light, it can't quite get down to the power levels of the AB400.

Stats for the 1600.
Note that the slider can go from full power to 1/32 power. Or 20Ws to 640Ws.

Stats for the 400.
Again, the slider can go from full power to 1/32 power. Or 5Ws to 160Ws.

The 1600 can go down to the range of full power on the 400, but if you need to go much lower, it's not going to make it very well.

If you're looking for the lower power (hair light? backdrop fill light?) you might be better off with the 400. I would imagine it's easier to control the slight changes in power at the higher end of the slider, than it is at the lower end of the range.

I see where you get you're screen name.

I did have a 400 and beauty dish for sale also but they sold last week pretty quick. Not much help I know.

I watched a CreativeLive event this past weekend.
They were using an Alien Bee B800. They were using it at its lowest power. That's 10Ws.
The B1600 can't even go that low.

If you were looking for a Geo Metro for your needs, would you let someone sell you a Cadillac Coupe deVille?
Try parking that sucker in the city.

It's all in what you need, and I believe that everyone should have all the pertinent information before making a purchase.

And yes, I can be a Killjoy.

Clifton, thanks for the offers! I'll think about that softbox and get back to you soon if I decide to spring for it.

Alan, thanks! The output range control is exactly what I'm looking for. I may end up getting a B800 or 1600 later as a larger key light, but for now I'm actually interested in using the low end output as much as the high.

Chris, let me know when you are going to shoot, and if I can tag along.
I can bring my AB800, light stand with a boom arm, and both octoboxes I have. One is 4.5 feet and the other is 6 feet.

That would be awesome! We need to organize a shoot with the california folks anyway. I've got at least two that would be ready and willing to drop what they're doing.

Try using an ND filter on the light, sheets are surprisingly affordable

In the market for one right now, probably second soon. Would consider buying a pair, depending on cost. I'd like to pay ~$175 shipped.
