Putting a 50 f/1.8 on a 5DII is like putting a screw cap on a bottle of Moët & Chandon.

Nahh...

The 50 f1.8 is still a very good lens... i recommend everyone having one in their bag if they dont already have any f/2.8 or faster glass...

Not everyone can afford a monster 50 f1.2L so thats were the 50 f/1.8 and 50 f/1.4 lenses come into play...

I say that as I'm looking at my desk, with a 50 f/1.4 on my left, and a 50 f/1.8 Nifty on my right.

It's a great little lens. Don't get me wrong. I just don't think it does the 5DII justice.

Edit: and I've played with a 50 f/1.2. I don't think it's worth it's price.

The reason Im looking is for a friend of ours who recently purchased a 5D Markii with the 24-105 F4, and we are helping her out to find a good cheap low light lens for video/photo. She is a college student on a budget as well.

I've got one I'd be willing to let go. It's 4 months old barely used for maybe 2-300 photos. $100 shipped w/ aftermarket hood. got box etc.

KillJoy is dead wrong. The 1.8 is the only way to go in that focal range, never mind the dirt cheap price. My three favorites after using them all - the 21mm ZE. the ef 50 / 1.8. and the 100mm ZE.

50mm 1.8 is cheap but it gets the job done. Didn't have money for an 1.4 but I found them to be equal IMO.
