...and KEH had a pair yesterday or day before. And a Noctilux in transit. For those of us who can use M mount lenses.

I'd just like to fondle it a little. I have an older 55mm f1.2 I use for a paper weight. It's got some kind of glass in it for such a small lens.

---------------------------
Nikon D50, D100 IR, D90, D700 and a box of old lenses. Oh, and a Canon SD790-IS P&S.

What brand 55/1.2? What vintage? I'll adopt it and give it a good home and use it properly. I'll even come get it and save you postage.

I'm as serious as a stroke.

55mm F1.2 is an old f-mount nikon lens. It has to have the rim cut to mount on a digital camera and have the aperature read properly so I've been letting it sit trying to decide if it has more collector value uncut or more user value cut. It's a quandry for sure. I have used it a little with a very short extension tube that allows it to mount fine but I don't get any exposure info. It's kind of neat if you really want a short DOF. It gets pretty small when it's really opened up. Definately a special purpose lens. Right now it's purpose is as a paper weight until I figure out what to do with it.

Here is what that Canon 50mm f/1.0 looks like. You can see some images from it here and some here.

There's a quarter for scale.

Stick the faster Canon 50mm lens next to it for scale. Or is it away for surgery at the moment?

Don't hold back Arlon, go for the conversion. I'm about to send a Vivitar (Kiron) 200mm f/3.0 for conversion myself. A conversion for use with the D200 is only $25 + shipping both ways. I'll get that back in enjoyment the first week!

Ok, here are the Canon's fastest 50's. The LTM 50mm f/0.95 and the EF mount 50mm f/1.0. Oh, the Cuvaison cork is for scale and one of Napa's finest Chards....
The LTM goes in for surgery when I can spare the R-D1 for a while to be converted to a Leica M mount for the R-D1 and any future M mount Leicas.

Autofocus and auto aperture probably have something to do with it...

So, if we did away with stuff we don't need or use, then we could all have small lenses, eh! Auto-diaphragm (sp?) isn't the primary culprit either. My 1960s vintage Canon BL 50/1.4 lens isn't huge.

Daniel, go get the Holga with flash at Rangefinder Forum Classifieds. It has a small lens. You know you want it!
