My dad has one of the large (8 foot?) satellite dishes and he's talking about getting rid of it, so I thought I'd ask here if anyone had an interest in it... this is not one of the Dish Network/DirecTV dishes, but a real satellite dish used to pull in network shows, wild feeds, etc... used to be fun many years ago pulling in the syndicated feeds of shows like Star Trek: TNG a week before the stations actually aired them.

Your Dad's entitled to get rid of it if he wants to but I'm not sure why he would unless he is already using something else.

While I haven't used my large dish since '97 (due to military moves), when I was using it I could get everything that Dish Network or Direct TV offered plus more and I could always get way more than cable offered.

The big dish advantage over the little dish.., I only had sparkles or lost signal if the Dish was filling up with snow. Rain, clouds, heavy storms never bothered it at all.

When I checked on it (Large dish aka C-band) last year they are already moving to HD and digital receivers.

I've contemplated setting my my 7 1/2 foot echostart dish and receiver and looking into what it would take to upgrade. At the very least it is worth it to pull in the various free broadcasts and news feeds.

Hopefully you'll find someone with an interest. Smaller isn't always better when you're trying to collect a satellite signal.
