Camera gear of any kind (not bags.. lenses, bodies, flash, tripod, etc)- yes. All else. No... not in the least

If you look on KEH.com you'll see that the rating of the equipment drops when there is no box

They don't mean anything to me. I can buy items cheaper if it is sans the box, therefore I don't like boxes.

OTOH it's best for me to keep mine. I've started to keep mine. Some people like to buy with a box and I like that I can command a premium price simply by having some cardboard.

Bad for buyers, good for sellers.

Well my camera is equipped with a 1000 megasquirtle light sensitive array with a megakilo double widget interface and a pseudo-terrafilter. its got 2 million hexafurtles with a 10 kiloplex and a rechargeable virtual combo-backplate. i also fitted an optical fillyfangle with predictive threshold histogram monitoring. it also has a light sensitive light meter and a time sensitive shutter mechanism.

Make no mistake about it, selling an item with the original box makes it more sellable. The more people can get to having the original items the more/faster it will be to sell. Just think, if you had a choice of buying the same lens from two seperate buyers for the same price, but one is just the lens and lens cap, and the other is all of the original equipment, 99.9% of the people I know would buy the one with all of the original equipment.

I do quite a bit of buying & selling. I almost never buy anything used without it having the original box, especially on high price items.

Having the box and all of the paperwork implies that you take care of your gear whether or not this is the case.

I keep all my photography related boxes in the attic, even small boxes for remotes, off-camera shoe cords, etc. However, if I was looking to buy something used, and it didnt come with the original box, I would still buy the item. BUT, if there were two items that were completely equal in price and condition, I would pick the one with the box.

To me when I buy a used item that I know includes the original box and contents, it tells me the seller is a little more meticulous and careful about their equipment and therefore their equipment is probably been cared for like I would care for my own.

I do like others have mentioned. I put all the boxes in a trash bag and put them in the attic and then file away the paper contents for later.

Therefore I save the boxes for my cameras and lenses, but get rid of most other boxes, such as TVs, laptops, computers, kitchen applicances.

My garage is filling up with second hand boxes for just about everything large and small. I tried to recycle a couple of times wit the city of Houston. They don't take it. ... Any idea where I might be able to recycle the stuff locally? I hate to throw it in the general garbage, but I'm running out of alternatives.

I put cardboard boxes out on heavy trash day, and the truck always takes them.
