Then I won't advise what I have which is the 70-200 2.8 vr w/ tec 1.7., however it's more right than wrong on AF. Not to ask of your business but are your eyes failing?
Mine are but I am learning to adopt because most of my prey is in trees an AF goe's nuts in a target rich environment like that.

I now wear trifoclas and have astigmatism that is off the charts. I may seek a surgical alternative when finances permit. To be honest, I have always had focusing problems since the late '60's when I began shooting with a then state of the art Nikon FTn. Auto focus is the greatest thing to ever be introduced to photography (right after digital that is)!
