This lens is not bad, but it's no L glass. It's probably the best you can do at f2.8 on full frame without stepping up to the Canon 24-70L, but the price difference is there for a reason.
Don't get me wrong, this lens is very good in the right conditions (outdoors, indoors with AMPLE lighting.) With good focus it's very sharp. I have some 20"x10" landscape prints from this lens that I'm pleased with, and a lot of candid and vacation shooting.
What this lens lacks: Fast auto focus. In low light it will hunt. Build quality is not great. The lens is solid, but not built like a tank.
I bought this lens in 2006 for an event I was shooting indoors. It did fine, but the hunting low light focus slowed me down. I'd like to use the funds I get from this to get a good tripod as I could use that much more nowadays.
