SOLD: Canon 300 2.8 non IS - 08-31-2008, 08:45 AM

**SOLD**: Canon 300 2.8 $1700

I'm selling my 300 2.8 non IS with all caps, strap, and original hard case.

*This lens has a small front focus problem with auto focus but is still razor sharp with maual focus. In auto focus, it focuses just in front of the subject, creating a slightly soft image. I tried using the micro focus adjustment feature on a Mark III body, which really improved the focus to almost 100%. Below are some pics:

This is pretty much straight out of the camera without the micro focus adjustment. The focus point was the NFL logo on the vest.

Here is one showing the difference after applying some unsharp mask (again no micro adjustment).

Here's the same one with some cropping to zoom in

Here are some pictures using the micro focus adjustment on the Mark III. Focus point was on the white vertical line in the middle of the photo:

Straight out of camera and cropped, no focus adjustment

Straight out of camera and cropped with a full +20 focus adjustment (maximum on the Mark III)

As you can see, with the Mark III focus adjustment, it gets pretty close.

Cosmetically, this lens is in excellent shape with only a few light scuffs. Here are a few pics of the lens itself:

If you are interested in this lens, please PM me. Price is for Houston pick up/delivery. Paypal accepted, but buyer pays Paypal fees as well as shipping charges if shipped.

Sounds very tempting. But I just got a 300 2.8 IS.

i shot the lens the other day with my MK III in order to test it out and possibly purchase it.. my creds fell through so i am no longer in dire need of a 300 any more unfortunately.

the lens is SOOOOO clean... very impressive.

i would have bought it had my creds panned out...

If I had a Mark III, I might jump on it.. but the front focus issue scares me with the 5D.

....I would bet that Canon should be able to calibrate it pretty easily.

If I had the cash, I'd jump on this deal! Great for fall football season! You know a new 300 2.8 (the IS version) costs $4000.

You would think that. Canon is the only one with the software to calibrate the lens, but they won't work on these older lenses anymore.
