Question Looking for Darkroom Equipment - 01-21-2010, 07:33 PM

I am new on here and trying to help out my 13 yr old daughter. She is really getting into her photography and has expressed that she wants to start developing her own film and printing them. If anyone has any darkroom equipment that they can part from for free, we would greatly appreciate it. It doesn't need to be very expensive equipment but it does need to work for her to play around with and learn from.

I am still looking and one person on her said that they are going to do inventory this week and get with me afterwords. I will get with you if I end up with extras. A lot of people on here say try Craigslist. However, I have not had any luck on that... Good Luck! :)

I hope your daughter is able to use the equipment I gave you, Michelle. All you need are the chems and you are set to go for processing!! There are lots of folks here able to help if you run into problems.

Oh she is enjoying it... She has gotten really good at rolling the film onto the reel that you gave her... and with her science project, it help her finish the project...

We decided to build her a darkroom in her bedroom closet. (she has a huge walk in closet). As soon as she gets some fixer, she is going to start developing her film on a regular bases...

We are so grateful for your help...

Thank you so much.

That is awesome, Michelle. Just make sure she has proper ventilation in there. The best would be to install a fan that will suck the fumes to the outside. And for film developer especially, it's important not to pour used chemicals down the drain. Research where you can take it once it's no longer good anymore. Might consider letting her set up a temporary one in a dark bathroom, as the ventilation and running water would already be there.

Sense we are in the middle of remodeling ourselves, and her room is not completely finished, we added a counter in her closet and extra plugs for the red light and the enlarger (when get those). On the counter, we added removable built in holders for the developing trays (when we get those) for the printing process. Didn't think about the ventilation but we can add that to the plans as well. She has a bathroom in her room right next to her closet and my father is working on some special containers that we can put in her closet for the chemicals when they are no longer good so that when it is filled we can take it to Walgreens or someplace that will take the chemicals...

The ventilation is crucial, especially if the closet is in her bedroom.

TAKEN: I have a Kiron 70-210 f/4.5 in a Canon FD. The front and rear elements have some cleaning scratches. Mechanically it looks okay but do not have a Canon manual camera to test. Price is free of course but shipping is probably around $5 (Paypal gift) or pickup from my office in West Houston (I-10 and Hwy 6). If this is going to a school, I will pick up the shipping.

Looking for a dead Nikon battery someone is willing to send me: EN-EL4 (or 4a) or EN-EL3e (preferably the EN-EL4). I have an experiment I want to do and need to tear one apart. I'm looking for an alternative way to get 8fps in a D300 grip :) Thanks!
