San Francisco is by far one of my favorite places to travel to. In April 2009 I got to meet a group of local photographers there that showed me all of the cool places around town to shoot at.

I had been to photograph the Golden Gate Bridge at night but never found a good location to shoot from. The guys I met up with showed me the perfect spot! It was on the north side of the bridge out on the pier. We got there just before sunset and shot up until about 9pm. Next trip there I definitely want to walk across the bridge... I bet that would be a blast!

Here's a 25 second exposure of the bridge in order to get that silky smooth water.

Canon EOS-5D Mark II : Canon EF 35 f/1.4L : 25sec : f/5.6 : 100 ISO : 35mm : Shutter Priority : -1/3 Bias : No Flash

Here's an aerial shot from Google so you can see the location of the pier we shot from and exactly how to get there.

I can't get enough of the Golden Gate. Going on a Cali trip starting on 7/2. I'm sure SF will be on the agenda at least one day.

Send me a PM to let me know when you're in town, and I'll show you where Abel really took that shot.

No prob on the loan on the tripod.

But I'm pretty sure we were on solid ground when we took that shot, and your GPS marker shows as being on the pier.
My shots from on the pier were more of a straight on shot (less of an angle).

I'll have to look when I get home. I'm posting fom my iPhone from work.
They're kinda weird about using the Internet for personal uses. Three guys got fired right after I started, so I'm taking it easy on computer usage (if you know what I mean).

I stand corrected. The shot you are showing there, is indeed from on the pier.
The position of the rock in the foreground (in front of the North Tower) gives it away.

In this image, you can see that the rock is not in front of the North Tower, and was in fact taken from the land. You can also see some of the grasses in the foreground (bottom right corner).

Mea Culpa

If you'd like a less flattering angle on the bridge......

That was taken from here.
