What we need is a bag swap - 05-21-2009, 04:34 PM

I have way too many bags. (I admit, I am a bagaholic) Most are either unused, or almost unused. All are in perfect shape. except the one that I actually use professionally. It's a no-name bag I paid $50 for on ebay about 6 yrs ago. It's amazing - holds my stuff just right and fits under all airplane seats. And, it's holding up well. I love this bag.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a bag swap meet where we could actually try fitting our equipment in other photographer's bag mistakes? I have 8 hard cases that I use one of. I have backpacks, rolling bags, and shoulder bags. I have bags for carrying 2 of everything (when working) and bags for 1 camera/lens days, and everything in between. I have 2 different size golf travel bags with wheels for carrying background and stand. And now that I'm older, I have so many wheeled carts of various types too - for unwheeled bags and other equipment.

It's actually sort of embarassing - except that it seems to be common with photographers.

I think that's a brilliant idea, and I hope some of the photogs close to you will take advantage. Sounds like something we need to try up here in DFW, too.

My problem now is that I have one bag that fits my main kit, but I want something smaller to fit one camera, two lenses, flash and a few minor accessories. A grab-and-go type of thing when I know I won't need the bulk of my stuff. And then something along the lines of an "at home" bag that would keep my specialized stuff safe when I don't need it.

Cool I may want a bag - 05-22-2009, 07:06 AM

Hi Sara! I doubt that I have anything to trade. However, I would like to see your collection. Perhaps buy something at a fair price. I'll be back in town next Tuesday. I'm in the Cypress area. Folks around TPF know me. I'm house broken.

I was going to say the same thing! LOL I'll be in Groesbeck from the 28th-31st and since we have family in Deer Park/Pasadena, I'm absolutely certain I could plan a 'family trip' as a disguise....

Sorry for "ignoring" my thread, but my computer was not accessing the internet - found out that the ethernet card died. So today I am finally back up. I would love to show bags to anyone interested, but for the next month or 5 wks, I am working all weekends and processing photos during the week. It's my hardest month, but hey, it's $$..

Anyway, after that I would love to get together. And now I have a new plan too - I have oh so many books on photography that I need to get rid of too. Some are older and perhaps not as revelant, but there are bound to be photographers who need this info. I have already read them - or looked at all the pictures) I have always been one of those people who dream of a library room where I can keep all the books I have ever bought and be happily surrounded by them, but I am reaching a place in life where that is no longer happening. I am learning to "let go" (I moved to a smaller place with less storage - brought it all with me, but have no place to put it)

So now I am adding to my original idea. We need a bag and book swap! I could call it a "photographer's garage sale", but I might want to acquire some new stuff (that I didn't know I needed) from you guys too.

Perhaps we could make plans for something after June is over?

Works for me. My grandkids are taking up most of June. "Dibs" on any film related books. Would you consider "trading" modest amounts of cash for books or bags? Cash stores easily and it's the right color. Goes with anything.

A photographers swap meet!
Need an indoor location where people can set up a small table, spread out their "junk" and either sell or barter for new "junk".

Seems awfully formal. How about a park with a picnic table or 3 close together? Hot dogs & cold drinks.

justing thinking there is more to look at and lust over with more then one table of goodies... More people means a better change of someone having the thing you want, otherwise why wouldn't you drive over to that persons house if it's only a 2 or 3 person deal....

Fair enough. If we get enough folks interested we could grow.

This would be pretty cool. I've got several bags/packs and a whole bunch of books I wouldn't mind unloading.

I'm looking for a replacement for the bag I carry my rangefinders in. I'll bring it. If you think you have a better solution, we'll talk. Books are always good.
