Think Tank StreetWalker Harddrive - 02-13-2010, 11:52 PM

Ok, so I have been searching and sizing up various backpack manufacturers. I have finally decided on one which will hold 95% of my current gear.

So, I stopped by HCE for the nth time in the last few weeks and kept trying and sizing up different backpacks. Today I finally walked out with the TT Streetwalker HD.

I finally got home to fondle it some more and transfer my gear from the Peli 1510 to her.

What I have in her are:
Gripped D700 with RRS L-Bracket with 24-70 attached, hood reversed
70-200 VR II hood reversed w/ RRS foot plate
Bagged Nikon 20-35
Bagged Panasonic 45-200 m4/3
SB900
Nikon and Panasonic Chargers
16 Recharable AA's
Expodisc
di-GPS Pro L
Diffusers and gels under the plastic rain cover
13" MacBook Pro and charger(not pictured)
Sanho Colorspace O 160gb HD(not pictured)

This puts it at 25lbs w/o tripod. With tripod, just a tad over 30lbs.

The tripod will be in a hard case in my checked in luggage with my clothes along with the head.

I love my TTSWHD backpack. Mine has already been to Italy and back. I'm probably crazy, as mine has everything in it, including the kitchen sink and weighs a bit more than yours... Hope you are going somewhere fun!

ThinkTank makes a lot of good bags. I was looking at the Streetwalker Pro for a bit (thanks Abel!!!), but then decided on the Airport International instead. It doesn't make daily carrying any easier though, but my Glass Taxi carries what I need for day to day stuff. Good bag choice though, and have a good time on your trip!!!

Richard - Thanks, we can't wait to jump on a plane, though my parents will be heading up mid april for another trip through the southern part of China.

As for the TT, great set of products, I will be keeping my Urban Disguise 60 for my daily hauler. As I can carry my 13" MBP and Dell D620 and an ungripped D700 and 24-70 along with a couple of notepads, and external harddrives.

I am really considering this bag as well for travel. When it's all loaded up, do you find it to be too thick or obtrusive? How does it balance fully loaded?

on the last leg of my trip, the backpack handled well. The bag fits well in the commuter planes(embrer 145) as well as the airbus overheads without any issues with laptop. I usually had the camera unpacked so the bag was as heavy with tripod in hand.

I will say it is not a perfect bag as I found that I wanted to go lighter and more discreet with a Domke J2 bag, so I packed that with a 70-200, flash, with the 16-35 mounted on the d3s, which all can be fitted comfortably in the Domke if the cam needs to be hidden.

With that said, the trek along Mt Huashan I used the ThinkTank SW HD comfortably given the terrain. The backpack was well used and came in handy, a shoulder bag would have been too cumbersome.

EDIT:
I'll add that my roommate had a lowepro backpack which is larger in height with more padding and he despises it because of it's 'dry' weight as well as the many compartments around the bag. I think there are too many small pockets around the bag, that would make you go hunting for what youre looking for. The think tank have a limited amount of pockets with ample room and the padding is not overly done so there isnt any unneeded weight.

Thank you for your input. That was my main concern with these larger gear bags, was the weight balance. If you were able to go on a trek with all your gear, I think it should be good. Thank you for pushing me off the fence.
