Keep things simple to give you flexibility. I carry a Dakine 20" backpack to locations. In the pack for sports: 300mm f2.8 AF-S on D700 and 18-70mm f3.5-4.5 on the D90. I also pack and interchange the 70-200mm f2.8 with the 300mm if the situation is right. To keep the equipment from damage, I insert the cameras/lens in individual towel pockets I've sewn. Not shown is the monopod.

For weddings, receptions, dinner parties, I take the same pack. The large 300mm is replaced with the 200mm f2 and prime lens. I also use the slightly smaller 18" Oakley backpack if I know I don't need the 300mm or the 200mm lens. What I like about the Oakley is that it unzips fully like a clam shell.
