Which case do you prefer a hard case like a Pelican or a softbag.

I'm wanting a hard case but I'm also wanting a softbag.

So IDK what to get.....LOL

A pelican will get you more water resistance compared to a soft material bag. As people will tell you, there is no ONE perfect bag.

Get both. You will use them at different times. When you are walking to another terminal in airports, you will appreciate the wheels on your pelican 1560... when you are hiking through rough terrain, a lightweight backpack is the way to go. I think I have 5 or 6 different bags for different situations!

I transport/store my gear in Pelican cases but then put what I'll be working with in a Domke soft bag.

Yeah, no kidding.

I usually travel with my LowePro CompuTrekker AW. I've never had been bother by it being too big to carry on, and I fit a ton of stuff in it. It does fit in an overhead.

If I am on a shoot, I often just use my shootsac. Carry the 5D2, put in a couple lenses and a couple flashes.

I often use a regular backpack, because I don't want to look like I am carrying around 10K in photo and computer gear when I leave a shoot in the middle of the night in a scary area.

Hiking with a pelican case in your hand would be hard to do on any rough trail but for security and padded protection the pelican can't be beat by any soft bag. BTW there are other hard case makers out there some with features that pelican hasn't adopted yet that I have seen. Saw one last week at a big trade show that allowed you to turn the case into a cart that carried up to 250 lbs of gear on it and the handle turned into a wagon style handle for an easy ability to pull the case along on it's 4 wheels, case weighed about 18lbs for one that was about the size of a pelican 1500.

One alternative to a soft sack is a photo vest but they won't carry much gear in them but easy to use in the field.
