Question Nikon 600mm F4 + ThinkTank Airport Security V2? - 07-30-2010, 02:01 PM

Anyone been able to get the Nikon 600mm into the TTAS2 bag? The TT site says the Canon will fit but not the Nikon.

Can anyone verify that the 600mm won't fit?... even without the 2nd lens hood.

Ouch, haven't heard that but having travelled with the 600 and having the TTAS I believe it.

_/oe,

Hmmm, I may just have to shoulder the 600mm and use the TTAS2 as my other carry-on. Don't really want to do that but it may just come down to that. I need a bag that will fit both the 600mm F4 and the 200-400 F4. That would "do" for two carry on bags.

Ouch! It better have wheels!!

Have you checked the Nikon web site for dimensions on the 600 and then measured out your ThinkTank?

A Nikon 600mm AF-S II , w/both hoods on reverse and Wimberley replacement foot, just fits (lengthwise, head down) in a TT International v2, taking up 2/3 of the bag. The rest of the space I can pack

18-35
70-200
2 bodies (D300 or D700), 1 w/grip
TC14
50mm
SB600

There are narrow dead spaces around the 600 for small things, but the bag is heavy (30lbs+) as is. Might just fill it up with clothes.

Given the 600VR is 445mm (~0.6in longer than AFSII), and the TTAS is 530mm (or ~2.3in longer than TTAI). I don't think you have a problem putting the lens in. Adding a 200-400, you may only have space for 1 body.

You're welcome! I am taking the TT AI and 600 for a trip shortly.

The biggest worry I have is weight. Most domestic flight limit is 40lbs (18Kg), but international only allow 15lbs (7Kg) - just the bag alone is 10lbs... add a body and a 70-200 and you are done... Guess need alt. method of getting gears oversea.

Tell us how the TT AS works out.

I believe the normal domestic weight limit is 50 pounds. At least that is what they told me on the last two flights we took. 15 pounds is a ridiculous restriction!

Screw the Nikon Hood, grab the collapsable AquaTech.

Soft Hood Large - 1380

.... or just bring an Allen wrench and take the tripod foot off and put the hood backwards.

Very cool. Have you used the AquaTech hood before?

Heard good stuff on SS, but not from anybody I actually know. Still waiting for somebody to do some kind of video review of it and show it actually supporting a lens on end.

I had absolutely no problem fitting the 600mm in the Airport Security v2.

Aquatech Hood for 600/4 - 07-06-2011, 11:23 AM

It's great, works just fine like the original hood came with 600/4.
It is pliable :-) So you can store it at any dead corner then you are set to travel! Velcro is strong enough to hold it firm over the 600/4 for shooting at any directions upward, downward, you just name it.

A bit pricey, though, but worth every penny:-)
