Arrow My Travel Kit - 08-25-2010, 09:39 AM

I have been known to be a bit of a bag junkie for the past few years... Here recently I've calmed waaaayyyy down.

I've done a lot of traveling this year and I have gotten my travel kit pretty set in stone. I do have a Think Tank Street Walker backpack but haven't used it at all this year since I felt like carrying a backpack was a bit cumbersome to get to my equipment easily.

I switched to a Crumpler 6 Million Dollar Home shoulder bag this year and I absolutely love it!

I love that this bag doesn't screm 'camera bag' and it makes everything VERY easily accessable. Here's what I carry in my bag:

Canon 5dmk2
Canon 24-70 f2.8L (mounted)
Canon 135 f2L
Canon 17-40 f4L
Canon 15 f2.8 Fisheye
Canon G9 Infrared Converted
Extra Batteries, card wallet, wireless remote, lens hoods

I have also ditched my monster Gitzo CF tripod and Markins head for a smaller Benro TRCB-069 CF travel tripod/head combo. This tripod is amazingly compact and lightweight tripod can comes with a carrying cast that I attach to the bottom of my Cumpler bag. I just run the nylon straps from the Crumpler through the aluminum D Rings on the Benro case.

For my clothes and such I bought a REI Vagabond backpack which can hold a lot! The reason I bought this bag was because of the longer size and I wanted a backpack instead of of a rolling bag so that I wouldn’t have to roll a suitcase around various cities on my way to my hotel etc.

Here is my complete compact traveling setup.. All of which I carry on onto the plane without having to check any bags. Just get off the plane and go! Forgive the crappy cell phone pic. lol!

I hope this might help give you guys some ideas and/or info if you're thinking of doing the same thing.

Thanks for the info Abel - After traveling to Austin, then El Paso before coming home...I've decided I want a new camera bag....and a new suitcase... ;-)

Neat to "see" your kit, Abel......impressive that you've pared it down so that you don't have to check anything.

I confess that my travel gear wouldn't fit in that set up... I do drive to Wyoming, though... Very nice, Mr. Bond. Do you pick this out, or did "Q" outfit you?

My NYC travel kit should have been the same as yours. Instead I loaded up.

5D MKII
T2i
16-35L II
Zeiss 35
24L II
24-105L
70-200 2.8L II
1.4x TC
Gitzo tripod

Next time its going to be a 5D2 with my 24-105 and maybe a fast prime.

My head is swimming with what gear to take and what will/will not give me problems at the airport. My last trip was the kitchen sink approach....but I drove. Nice to see you can travel with ease!
