Custom made camera bag - 10-26-2010, 12:39 PM

I grew up with a very creative girlfriend--one who can sew, knit and crochet ANYTHING and who eventually owned a very successful shop creating wedding gowns in OKC. Unfortunately, she got burned out and wanted to pursue nursing so is now working at a hospital as a patient advocate. But thankfully she has not stopped creating gifts for people.

She's also into photography as a hobby and knows my love of it and decided to make me a custom camera bag out of my favorite colors. I spent the night at her home last year and while I was there, she measured my camera, lenses, etc. I never thought anything would come of it because she's sooo busy with her job and other hobbies so I was totally blown away a few weeks ago when she dropped by and gave me this gorgeous bag! And it didn't cost me a thing!!! How do you ever thank someone for such a generous gift?

And, no, she won't custom make one for anyone else. She's just too busy. I just had to share the talents of one so creative and generous!

It fits over my shoulder and sits on my hip.

The flap unzips to reveal clear storage pockets.

The attention to detail is amazing!

Another long zippered flap on the inside reveals two very padded compartments, one for a lens and accessories and the other for the camera with a lens attached face down.

The inside flap zips down to reveal two more very padded compartments for lenses.

What a special gift. Well designed and from a friend. Wish my friends would make me one. It would probably be duct tape though.

Thats fargin awesome.

I want someone to make a bag like the ThinkTank Retrospective 30, but a size larger/taller. So i can cram my D700+grip+70-200 in it.

Yes, but she could make money from many of her hobbies. She's that talented. She said if she did it for a living, she wouldn't enjoy it anymore. It becomes a job instead of a creative release. She's already got a "job" in nursing so she uses her hobbies as an outlet by sharing what she makes with others. Amazing lady!

That's the exact reason why I won't quit my design job to do photography full time.
I do enough work to fully support my expensive photo hobby and that's good enough for me!

That's a very nice bag from an obviously very talented individual.

Holy crap, that's beautiful - tell her she can make some serious money on etsy or something if she wanted to sell a couple of these. There's definitely a market for this sort of thing, women that want camera bags that look just like designer handbags or hobo slings

Wow! That's gorgeous! It's a shame she doesn't want to do more. I would buy one in a heartbeat! But, I understand not wanting to do it for money. My hobby (other than photography) is cooking/baking. I love making food for other people, but never even thought about selling it.

Wow, what a generous and talented friend. I'd say make sure to offer a nice photo session next time she needs family photos or something, but I'm guessing a friend like yours doesn't do these things expecting payback. That's one thing I like about photography, it allows me to create custom gifts for my family and friends (and similar to Dennis, I like photography a bunch, but don't want to pursue it as work because I want it to stay fun).
