Question 2 DSLR bag advice - 07-25-2011, 04:09 PM

Howdy...

I could use some advice on a new bag to accommodate the following:
  • DSLR with 100-400mm attached
  • DSLR with 24-105mm attached
  • storage for flash, a couple of smaller lenses (one is a 10-20mm), and knickknacks (chargers and such)
  • weatherproof
  • NO need for laptop storage
  • tripod strap would be nice
  • backpack or shoulder bag style

I've found the ThinkTank Airport Acceleration 2.0, which looks like it would fit the bill, but am I overlooking something better (or comparable with a lower price)?

Hi Matt,

With what you described, I would get either the Thinktank Streetwalker PRO or Streetwalker HardDrive. I have the latter of the two and it is quite the bag. Although it has a place for a 15" laptop, I often use it for a few magazines, books, and my iPad instead of a laptop. It is also more sleek than the Airport accelerator and costs less. My two cents worth...

I would never leave lenses attached when you are not shooting. The movement (even if secured well) can loosen the mount and cause considerable damage.

I had a similar question and tweeted it to ThinkTank. They replied with their suggestion and posted it to their fan page and I got a number of suggestions.

I would post the same question to their fan page and also take all the gear down to Houston Camera Exchange and try putting it in a few different bags.

I always suggest trying the Think Tank bags first, though.

When I asked the question, the answer was the StreetWalker HardDrive.

There is my blog about it with how I packed it. I also use the laptop compartment for a Kindle or for things like harddrives or magazines.

Good ideas, fellas.

Tom, I wouldn't necessarily leave them attached at all times. I shoot airshows, often from the field. So I'm going from distant aircraft to something large passing nearby. Reaching in the bag to grab swap cameras would be handy and my Airport UltraLight doesn't accommodate.

I was just about to pull the trigger on the Acceleration, but went with the Urban Disguise 70 Pro V2.0. Thanks for the input.
