Looking for a new bag - 10-20-2011, 04:13 AM

Hoping for some suggestions here as my schedule doesnt allow me to get to Comptitive camera or anywhere to look at bags often. I have a Fastpack 250 which i really like as far as backpack style, ability to carry other stuff in the top, and easy side access. The problem is that Id like to be able to carry the camera with my 28-75 attached as i use it more, and the 70-200 off the camera, as well as a flash. The F250 will carry the 70-200 attached, but not off in the lens slots. I know the F350 is just a bit wider, like an inch, and not sure that would be enough. What bags should i be looking at?

Look at the Think Tank Streetwalker.

Also, don't carry your lens attached to your body. The jostling can weaken the lens mount (only held together with some small screws) and might break it off, giving you an expensive problem. Always take the lens off the camera when you are done shooting.

Are you interested in trying out a bag that is carried on the shoulder? The Think Tank Retrospective 30 (or 20) will carry everything you've described, plus more, and gives you uninterrupted access while shooting.

In late July to early August this past year I went of a 12 day tour of 5 National Parks: Zion, Bryce, Arches, Monument valley & the Grand Canyon. I was with a Green Tortoise Tour bus and 34 other travelers. We did a lot of long distance hiking and camping on this trip so my camera gear got a real test.

Just before leaving on this trip I took the advice of the guys at Kelby Online Training and purchased a Think Tank Retrospective 20 Pinestone bag. I have 4-5 bags of every style, shape & size in my collection. The Think Tank bag blows them away. First, it doesn't look like a camera bag so security of your valuable equipment is better. Second, it seems to carry everything but the kitchen sink, having pockets and places for my iPad, rain jacket and my D7000 with 18-200mm lens onboard. I carried two other lenses and a myriad of the usual cleaning supplies, spare batteries and filters. The bag has the best strap I've ever experienced. I can testify to that after toting it in canyons and steep climbs for hours in desert heat. I love this bag, designed by photographers.
