Buying my girlfriend a new bag - 10-23-2011, 08:44 AM

The clip on the cheap bag that my girlfriend got for her DSLR broke about a month ago, and she refuses to use it and carries all of her equipment around by hand now. She's in school for photography, so obviously she needs something... She wants a backpack bag that can fit:
  • 13" Macbook Pro
  • Cannon 60D (w/ or w/o grip)
  • 3-4 lenses
  • Film camera + Extra Film
  • Other random do-dads

I'm on a budget and am trying to stay under $150. I know it's not much when talking about camera bags, but I only make so much money traveling back and forth into the city 3 days a week.

What do you guys use? Suggestions would be great!

Manfrotto has a combo bag and tri pod for a great price. Got mine at Houston Camera Exchange.

Thanks! I'll check it out!

Edit: I'm not a fan of where the laptop goes in the bag. Doesn't seem very safe IMHO. Anyone else?

Crumpler has many bags and I think their "8 million dollar" is what you are looking for (laptop + camera). Crumpler also sells backpack "inserts" (i guess that is what you would call them). So you load that up and put it in the bottom of a backpack.

I have a 6 million dollar bag, but I don't think I could fit a laptop in it along with my equipment. Maybe a tablet, but that would be it.

Thinktank has a couple of options, if you want a shoulder bag which has a backpack strap attachment, the Urban Disguise 60 is an option which will easily store up a 17" MBP in the outside zippered compartment. The inner comparment can hold the 13" but will be a tight fit with your lenses and body with it.

If you want a backpack, the ThinkTank Streetwalker HD will do everything and more for her. I used this for a 3 week trip across China carrying a 13" MBP, 5 lenses, batteries, D3s, etc. It weighed close to 35lbs when I had it fully packed.

Here's the thread I started for my bag for my trip, the last listing of the contents is what I actually carried.

Think Tank StreetWalker Harddrive

Abel - did a review of the non-HD version of it, which is slightly smaller as it does not have a compartment for a laptop unlike the HD. Think Tank Street Walker Backpack

Thank you all for the options! I'll take a look at all of them when I'm home and make a decision then =]

Camera bags - 10-28-2011, 07:53 PM

XcessRize Designs / Quality Handcrafted by xcessrize

Cargo™ Camera Bag Large | BUILT

I am looking at one of these two companies. My friend got a bag from the first link and absolutely loves it. I'm leaning a bit towards that bag just cause it comes in so many different colors. She got a medium bag and it's enough for her Canon and 2 lenses, a drink, her normal purse stuff too.

jill-e has a red rolling bag that will fit a big laptop and protect it. it's the "cutest" option.
