Small Bag Recommendations - 04-21-2005, 01:13 PM

I'm looking for a compact shoulder bag to carry some of my gear in for events and other times where I don't need to take everything. I'm thinking that would be the 20D with lens attached, plus the kit lens and the 50mm prime. Room for the 580EX would be nice, but if I needed that I could just swap it with a lens.

I was hoping to make it to a camera store in Houston this weekend to look around, but I can't make it down there anytime soon. Since the bag selection here consists of whatever the local BestBuy has, I'll probably be ordering online. We have the Rezo 170 AW here, so I may just get that.

Does anyone have a small shoulder bag they like and would be willing to post (or email) some pictures to me? Something along the lines of the Nova 2 or the Stealth Reporter 200 would be great.

Thanks

good question as I am looking for the same thing. sometimes I don't need two bodies and only want to carry the kit lens, flash and a telephoto. (do you realize how hard it is to fit a 70-300 in your pocket?)

I just picked up this bag a couple weeks ago and I love it.. lots of pockets.

Its meant to be lens down, back of camera to the top of the bag... that's a Tamron 28-300mm XR zoom on the left sitting on a set of macro tubes.. and that's the bottom of my 420EX Speedlight on the right.

The nicest thing about this one is that its fairly thin while hanging under your arm.. it is comfortable to carry.

I just got this one from Adorama:

http://www.adorama.com/GBSLMR.html?s...&item_no=6

It can be worn as a backpack, waist pack, or off the shoulder. And it was reasonably priced!

That looks similar to the one I showed, Wendy... but I despise Adorama.

I bought Tamrac Velocity 5 and I was very happy with it. It fits my camera (D70), 50mm prime and either 70-300 or flash. The picture/drawing at their product page (http://www.tamrac.com/5745.htm) is reasonably accurate/realistic. I liked the option of using it as a hip pack.

Unfortunately, I've outgrown the bag within a few short weeks and I now use Slinger, just like Wendy (similar style, just bigger). If you are interested, I'll sell you the Tamrac for $30 + actual shipping (I've really used it a handful of times - PM me if interested). Even if you want to get a new one, I recommend it.

I use the Adorama Slinger as well. It's a great bag for the price. I've carried the following in mine (all at once):

20D with grip
50 prime
18-55
75-300
remote release
extra CF cards
Op/tech strap
pen light
extra battery
iPod
55 mm UV filter
72 mm UV filter

I love being able to sling it across my body...definitely feels more secure to me. I just wish I could completely disconnect the waist strap...I never use it so it's just tucked away in the back.
