Recommend a good backpack for me - 01-06-2007, 05:04 PM

I've looked into some Lowepro and Tamrac backpacks but don't know which ones are good. Right now I have 2 lenses but plan on 2-3 more for shooting indoors...so a total of 5 lenses. Any suggestions, please let me know...links are appreciated.

edit: I might be carrying my mac book pro with me and a card reader

I use the Lowepro computrekker and love it. At the moment I carry the following in mine:

Nikon D200 with 28-70mm f/2.8
70-200mm f/2.8 VR
17-35mm f/2.8
85mm f/1.4
180mm f/2.8
15" Apple PowerBook
plus various accessories, light meter, SB800 flash, yadda, yadda, yada.

I also have a Lowepro micro-trekker 200 for days when I only need the 70-200 & 28-70. No laptop room in that one, but it's small and you can travel lightly with it.

Good luck!

I have the Lowepro Dryzone Rover and am sold on it. When they say it's waterproof, they mean it... and I've put it to the test multiple times.

This is what I'm carrying in it right now:

Canon Rebel XT
17-40L (usually on camera)
70-200L f4
50mm f1.4
Sigma 15mm f2.8
Kenko Extension tubes. (about the same size as the 50mm f1.4)

I have enough room left over to carry another med to large lens (70-200L) and one small-med lens (50mm or other prime).

In the part of the backpack that isn't waterproof I have the camelback waterpack (2 liter), a Panosaurus head, my filters and lens cleaning kit. There's still enough room in the top to carry more equipment or food for a long hike.

Another vote for the computrekker! One word of caution though, if you plan on carrying a laptop in it, make sure it fits first. The laptop compartment isn't large enough for much more than a 16 inch screen.

I think you'll be OK, they have a thin candy shell. I'm surprised you didn't know that.

I love my lowepro top loader. I've been beating it to hell in New Orleans for a while now, and no complaints.
