Camera/Notebook bag Recomendations - 01-19-2005, 02:57 PM

I need some recommendations for a good camera / notebook bag. It can be either a backpack or shoulder bag, but it has to be able to be carry-on size for when I fly.

Should be able to fit:
20D w/ kit lens attached
50mm 1.8
Sigma 70-300
580ex flash
3 Memory cards and a small reader
battery charger.

and a 12 or 14.1 inch laptop.

I've looked at the Computrekker AW, but wanted to see if there was anything else out there that is recommended. Shoulder bag recommendations would be very useful.

Heh, um, I have NO idea what to suggest. Especially as I'm already planning on knitting, felting, and lining a bag for my camera. That way I know for sure it has a perfect-sized pocket for absolutely everything I want to carry. ;)

Just a suggestion: You might want to get a bag slightly larger than what you need right now. With that nice 20D of yours you'll soon catch L fever (or at least New Lens fever) and will run out of space in your expensive new bag. Hell, I planned ahead like that and my bag is already full.

I have a Crumpler bag -- http://www.crumplerbags.com/cartInde...g&catId=22 -- and am out of room already. It fits my 10D, 75-300mm, 28-135mm, and 50mm, but *barely*, as in, it's a good thing the bag has a large velcro tab and an extendable strap.

Next lens I buy, I'm going to have to get a new bag. I wish I'd planned ahead, I just wasn't thinking. But the bag itself is great. Looks cool (red, with blue lining, doesn't look immediately like a photo bag, which I like) and is very sturdy. I'll probably buy another Crumpler -- just a bigger one! ;)

Saroy, which crumpler do you have? the one with padded sections or without?
I have the one with out. I fit two cameras with 5 lenses and two packs of batteries and a flash and some accessories. But since there is no padding......you have to be very very careful. which I am.

I'm in the same boat.. my laptop is the size of a damn Buick, and weighs about the same.. need something like the regular cam backpacks, with something for a 12lbs computer towards the rear (aka closest to your back).. I tried one with the computer sleeve at the front, and it was extremely uncomfortable with that much weight pulling back at your shoulders

I've got the Crumpler Bryan's Hot Tub on order at Photo Co-Op. It's a good sized bag with all the features I wanted. Photo Co-Op's price (believe it or not) was cheaper than internet (B&H, Adorama, etc.) My philosophy (and I told them) is that if they're within 10% of web price, I'll buy from them as I want to keep the local stores around.
