Suggestions on a different way to carry stuff. - 05-25-2007, 08:52 PM

I like to do long hikes (long to me, 5 - 10 miles) and use a Lowepro Nature Tracker AW II to carry my stuff. I like to carry a lot of stuff. I don't blame the backpack, but some how I have messed up a shoulder. To give it time to heal I need to get the weight off it. So I am in search of a different way to carry stuff. A traditional photographers vest or a Newswear Chest Vest are items I am researching. I think LowePro may also make a similar item to the Chest Vest.

Any opinions? History with the products? Any suggestions for the photog vest around brand or model? My largest lens is a Tamron SP AF 200 - 500 F/5-6.3 Di LD .

Thanks dan

I like using a vest or belt system. I use a Vested Interest vest and a Kinesis belt system.

Belt systems put the weight on your legs and trunk area of your body, which works unless you're either too skinny or too large. I'm a size 40+ and most fit me really well. I just cant run comfortably with it, if there's too much stuff on the side or front.

The chest vest system is good, but sometimes I feel like I'm being pulled too far forward by the belt, or that it'll slip off.

I had a friend who bought a heavy canvas welders vest, attatched (riveted) a bunch of Bogen base plates onto them, and would hook his 70-200/2.8, 200/1.8, third (EOS-3) and fourth (EOS1 - film) to the vest. It looked odd but he ran around. Only thing was if he fell forward. This was before the chestvest system was so popular.
