Lowepro Nova 5 AW - 07-20-2007, 09:00 AM

Does anyone have the Lowepro Nova 5 AW? I'm looking at purchasing it for my Rebel XTi, and have read mixed reviews online. Some of the complaints are the shoulder strap and that it is too bulky to carry. Any insight from TPFers would helpful. Thanks!

I used this bag for a long time, and loved it. I do a lot of rock climbing so I am pretty hard on my bags too. I was able to carry my D200, 70-200 2.8 VR, 12-24mm, 50mm, SB800, extra cards and accesories no problem. I recently upgraded to a CompuTrekker, so I no longer really use this bag, but I am keeping it for when I shoot climbing because I like having the toploading feature when I am 150 ft off the ground switching lenses, and I can clip it into the wall no problem.....

edit: it might be a bit bulky for you if all you are carrying is the rebel XTI, but if you plan on doing some upgrading and getting more lenses, then this is something you can grow into.

I'm looking at a purchasing a 5D. I've currently got the XTi kit lens, 70-300 zoom and I'm picking up the 50mm 1.8 this afternoon. My collection is slowing growing, and I want a bag that is going to last me. I found it for $57 shipped so I figured I can't go wrong with that. Thanks for the reply.

I pad $58.95 a year ago. The Nova 5AW is a super bag. It will allow you to carry up to two bodies. I have my D200/SB-D200 with 28-75 Tamron mounted. I also carry my Sigma 70-200 2.8, Nikkor 28-105, 60mm Micro and 50mm 1.4. There is room for my SB800, 1.4x converter, 58, 62, 67 and 77mm CP filters, charger, 6 batteries and other assorted stuff. The pocket on the lid holds manuals and a Demb diffuser.

I use mine all the time and love it like Ccpe i have had 2 bodeis 1 with 28 70 attached 70 200 VR, 10 20 Sigma, 50 1.4 Sb800, and lots of stuff lol plus one thing i like about it is if you always pick it up by the strap even if its open then your stuff stays in unlike a backack

Cool I like the strap - 07-21-2007, 02:30 PM

I have one, not the AW version, but same bag. It swallows gobs of stuff. Like a Pentax 6x7 body; 45mm, 105mm & 150mm Pentax 6x7 lenses; Leica RF body & 2-3 lenses; 2 lightmeters; 2 big polarizers; 2 quick release plates; cable release; level; film...FILM? Yep, film.

However, I use this bag as my "holds almost everything, throw it in the car, back and forth between Houston & Wood County, travel" bag. I don't use it to work from. However, I don't see why it wouldn't work for that too. The partitions are great and very flexible. Mine came with the Pentax 6x7 gear inside. It's old but has held up well. LOTS of good padding. Best strap ever on a camera bag!

Thanks for all the replies! I ordered mine yesterday and should have it Monday. I've got a smaller working bag, and I'm looking to use this as my "holds everything I own" bag.
