Well I just picked up a Neoprene sleeve from Fry's for $13, so I can stick it into my backpack or whatever back I'm using. Convenient but not as protective as a dedicated bag and there's not much room for accessories - probably just the charger and a set of earbuds. Just enough cushion for the stuff.
Targus, Vitrinox/Wenger (Swiss Army Knive guys), Kensington, Samsonite - heck even out favorite Lowepro makes dedicated laptop bags. A roller is nice if you have to carry a load of documents too, I bet you could fit a body and superzoom in there. The down side is when you have to carry it by hand (not rolling) it can be heavy. The ones I've dealt with can also be unstable with standing up. Rolling handles can be cheap too depending on brand too. Timbuk2, is the go to for bike messengers and they make great bags for big loads but always looked a bit weird to me.
Shoulder bags are great, a classic look and usually offer lower prices. They do get heavy.
Backpacks, look less like they're holding an expensive laptop but aren't very business-like.
I own one tamrac shoulder bag from the 90's which was "Government compliant" (no idea what that means, I got it for free), the neoprene sleeve, and then I'm looking for a camera backpack that will handle a laptop too... Just avoid anything that looks / feels / is too cheap. $30-50 should get you a great case. It always irks me that people will cheap out on a case, when their livelihood is in it. |
