I really need suggestions from anyone on a good camera bag. I have looked at all kinds and can't really find anything I like without the bag looking really cheap. The material on those I have seen are poorly crafted. I shoot mainly all outdoor photography (Wildlife, Scenic, Street etc..)
What have you found that works, I need to carry at least one body and several lenses and my SB800 and odds and ends you know the drill..
Thanks,

From what I understand, Abel is your authority. LOL!
Actually, I may be close behind. I tend to buy a new bag every time I get a new accessory (or so it seems...). My current favorites are from ThinkTank. In my opinion, they are the best cases/bags out there. Houston Camera Exchange (sponsor here) carries them. My current favorite from Think Tank is the Airport Security Roller. I love this thing!

The bag I use the most when out traveling is the Lowepro Mini Trekker. Its a backpack that will hold my 70-200 2.8, 17-55, 12 -24, with my D-200. They make great bags, good construction, good materials. I own 14 bags and maybe 8 of them are Lowepro. My most used everyday bag is the Lowepro Nova 4.

Andrew & Dan,
Thanks for both of your suggestions, I had not look at either one of those yet.. I think I have seen every other bag on the planet now and am about to lose my mind!! And I understand about buying a bag everytime you get a new toy.. And of coarse it seems no one bag fits all your needs, I think that is why Dan has so many as well.
Anyone else with a suggestion please let me know..

I have the Lowepro SlingShot 300AW and love it. It allows me quick access to my gear: D1x, 80-200, 50, 24, 2 extra batteries, SB-80DX flash, etc... http://www.lowepro.com/Products/Slin...d_for_Digital/

I think it depends on how you're going to use the bag. Are you going to be carrying it at all times (and need to swap lenses on the fly), or do you typically set your bag down and grab only what you need?
With the first option, there's more of an emphasis on portability and access to equipment. The latter option, storage capacity and ruggedness.
I opted for the first option. Have used the Slingshot 200, Boda, and ThinkTank SpeedDemon. Out of those I think I prefer the ThinkTank.

For function and use I suggest you look at Domke bags.
For quality and style Artisan and Artist bags.

I have a Tamrac Expedition 5 backpack, a Lowepro bag, and a Domke F2 (Sand). The latter is my favorite.

As pointed out above, it depends on your needs.
For some needs, I use a couple of large Pelican cases (between the two cases I can fit everything I've got into them).
For some needs I use a Tamrac Pro-9 backback, it comfortably fits two fullsize bodies, 1 short and one long 2.8 zoom, two flashes, a small mini-DV camcorder, my laptop, and the other misc. stuff.
And for more "on the fly" needs I use a Tamrac Velocity 9 sling-style bag. If I crowd it, it fits two bodies, one with lens attached, one unattached lens, and one flash in the main compartment, with a smaller compartment for smaller items like extra batteries and cleaning cloth and fluid.

Thinktank Airport Antidote has worked well for me. Holds 2 (or 3) bodies, few lenses, flash units, and accs without any problem. It has travelled around the world with me on several trips and has yet to show any signs of wear. Well built and excellent quality.
The Tamrac Expedition 3, which is much smaller, works well for a single D-SLR and lenses

Thanks to everyone who has responded!!! I actually need 2 bags one for travel, to carry on the plane with me and to fit in the overhead bins etc.. And the other I guess I would need just a day bag type for local or semi local shoots..
I will have to look into Think Tank as my travel bag? I keep hearing about them. Do they have their own website or just go online to B & H or someone like that?
As far as day bags I'm really confused, because I really did'nt want to strap a backpack on for local shoots, photography club things of that nature but the shoulder bags can get quite heavy also? Decision decision?? This is the nature of what we do?? I appreciate all the suggestions I have received so far and am searching online for your suggestions to see them.. Thanks again and anyone else please send me your thoughts..

I will warn you that you may be out of luck if you're in the market for a ThinkTank travel case (like the airport security). Most retailers and online shops have been out of stock for a while - the last estimate I heard was November.
For day bags, for heavier gear a waist strap/belt helps a lot with the weight distribution. With my ThinkTank bag, I can carry a 5d, 24-105, 70-200 and flash for far longer using the waist belt as opposed to just the shoulder strap. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
