Need Backpack/Camera Bag Combo - 01-16-2008, 02:44 PM

Just found out I will be doing more travel by air and my first trip is coming up in two weeks.

I am looking for a backpack/camera bag combo that will hold a laptop with a larger screen. It is a Dell D810.

My camera gear is a Nikon D50, a 70-300 VR lens, and two other prime lenses.

In the past, I have flown with my laptop bag and then with a Lowepro sling bag. I would really like to combine the two.

Any suggestions? I was looking at the Lowepro CompuTrekker AW.

Thanks!

I have one, it's BIG! Great for packing out for a trip. Holds EVERYTHING you could ever dream of carrying. Be prepared to take a smaller take-around bag, I'd hate to tote this thing around too long. My concern with flying would be the size of the bag and carry-on restrictions.

Check out the Tenba shootout.
I bought one yesterday from Arlington Camera: Tenba Shootout Large with roller.
It fits my 17" MBP and ALL my gear.

I don't know how large those lenses are, but for when I just want to tote a laptop and a few camera items I like my Lowepro CompuDaypack. They usually have them at BestBuy etc if you want to take a look. I did a short review for the Houston Photobloggers site here. But if those are larger lenses then it probably isn't an option.

I have a LowePro Stealth Reporter 550 AW (it fits a small laptop, two bodies and lenses/accessories. There are models that hold bigger laptops, too. It is awesome and well-padded, if not a little big. Looks like carry-on luggage, oddly enough.

Ditto on Naneu Pro.. I have the Naneu Pro K3L adventure backpack... Great Bag!! I carry my macbook pro, tripod, camera, several lenses and my ipod classic and then I put the extra stuff in the backpack area.

I also love it because it has an area on top that you can slip your ipod headphone out of while your pack is still on your back listening to your favorite music as you travel thru the airport etc..

With the regulations/restrictions today you can't go too big or it won't fit in the overhead bins. For some reason its seems when I travel abroad the bins are smaller then with I travel domestic?? Go figure?

For what you're describing (sounds like a pretty light kit) the Tamrac Adventure 9 would do the trick. Light kit area on bottom, thhere's some room on top for asstd, and a slot in the back for a 15" laptop (as described, D810 on the Dell site.)
