Angry Sling bags. - 01-27-2008, 06:48 PM

So I was at Precision today looking at sling bags. I noticed that almost all sling bags they had went in a right to left sling. My Tamrac is left to right, and that is what I was looking for. I have a Velocity 7 which is to small and really didn't like the layout. I really liked some of the stuff from MRock and this other company but with the sling being oppsite of what I was looking for I can't justify getting them.

Just a little rant.

I got a velocity 9 specifically to schlep my D3 around the ski slopes last month.

Maybe it's just me, but the left side carry seemed the natural and intuitive design.
Perfect for ski lifts where I'd spin it in front of my belly and shove it back over my low lumbar area to zoom down the slopes.
The velocity 9 has huge room for gear in the compartments.
It made skiing with a big camera almost effortless (relatively).

Casual family shots mostly:

I'm having to consider the Velocity 9 just due to the fact it's wearable how I want. I really dont like the access to gear inside of it, but if that's what I need to get by, that will be it.

I sort of wish I'd bought the 7 or 8.

The 9 is almost too big, but due to it's depth you can carry two tiered gear.
some deep inside with limited accessibility and higher, more superficial, level for easier access.

Actually I rarely think a case has too much room.
It's growing on me.
I still like backpacks best, provided I'll be shooting where I can set the pack down to open it....not skiing obviously.

Lowepro has one called Fastpack that looks cool. It's a backpack with a side opening like the Tamrac Slingshots. That would prob work for me. I just want to get to the camera easy without fully removing the bag.
