Nikon D200 (w/o battery pack) with a 18-200mm lens and lens hood?

I am not a professional photographer. But I like to have quick access to the camera while I am on vacation. Had the camera for a year now, but still hunting for a carry bag. If you have the same setup as mine, please let me know what bag you are using, pros and cons. Thanks!

btw, I did a serach but did not find anything...

If you put the hood on backwards, i have this one for sale... works GREAT for vacations.

Will also hold one or two smaller lenses in the side pockets and you can fit even more stuff in the sling.

I have one of those h-14's as well, and I never use it because it is difficult to squeeze the 5d in with the battery pack. But without the battery pack, you should be fine. I don't think you would even need to put the hood on backwards with the 18-200 because the 24-70 is way bigger with the hood and I can fit it in there with the hood on normally.

It would fit in one of the side pockets.
If you tell me what it is that you want to fit in there (all at the same time) I can do a test fit for you and let you know.

You might consider the Think Tank Digital Holster or Urban Disguise.

Boon,
There are a lot of choices out there for your current set up. But when shopping for a bag, also keep in mind your future gear upgrade/addition.
Personally, I really like the Lowepro Sling Bags. There are currently 3 models: 100, 200, 300. The 300 AW may be too big for your needs as it'll fit a professional SLR body (or D200 w/ battery pack) and 80-200mm F2.8D attached. And still lots of room for additional lens, speedlights, etc...

http://products.lowepro.com/catalog/Sling-bags,4.htm

Very comfortable to wear and quick access to camera.

Calvin Klein - thats right.

Get them at Dillard's when I buy aftershave and use custom inserts from BH.

Often use a smaller bag when traveling and just puul the insert (s) required.

Looks Good, Works well, Best Price/Performance, and Smells Good {Me}.

That's one of the bag I was looking at. Will the 6MDH fit my camera setup?

Absolutely! Just to give you an idea, I can easily fit my D80, my 28-70 2.8 and sb-600 in my bag.

Francis,

Thanks for the quick reply. I should be more clear in my question. The 18-200mm lens will be on the D200 with the lens hood. Basically I want it ready to go in the bag, so I can just pull out the D200, remove the lens cap and start shooting. I measure the length of the D200 + lens + lens hood is about 8 inches. If I put the lens hood backward is 7inches, will that still fit in the 6NDH?

It will work out. I always have my lens on my camera when I use that bag. And just like you mentioned, I put my lens hood backwards.

Lowepro Slingbag, shooting Canon, but should work just as good for a Nikon. I've got tons of stuff in mine. XTi w/grip, flash, 3 lens w/hoods.
